Children and Youth Development Project Start in 1987- present
Background
The drug problem is increasing in severity among children and youths. The current problems among youths are; dropping out of school, not want to study, teenage mother or unplanned pregnancy, etc. This project was created to build immunity against drugs among children and youths
in slum communities.
Policy:
• Promote children and youths to have potential both in system education and non- system education
• Encourage children and youths who are likely to drop out of school to return to the classroom or study at non-formal education
• Building immunity against drugs for children and youths
Objectives:
To create groups of youths to organize activities for the benefit of themselves and communities by collaborative thinking, participation.
Target areas: 26 communities, Chumchon moobanpattana School, neighbor communities (which request us)
Target group: 13-25 years
Activities:
On Education:
1. Follow up children who are likely to drop out of the educational system back into the classroom.
2. Promote and advise children who are likely to leave school to complete at least Grade 9
3. Visiting homes of children who have dropped out of the education system to continue their studies in the non-formal education system or alternative education such as sports, technical works, etc.
4. Training to provide knowledge about reproductive health, Aids and sex, dangers from drugs to children in schools
On Development
1. Encourage children to participate in alternative activities such as music, sports (futsul, Australian Rule Football, football, etc.) and Dhamma camps according to their aptitudes and preferences.
2. Promote and support sports competitions
3. The DPF staff coordinate with the schools in organizing children development activities and also develop teachers as appropriate
4. The DPF staff coordinate with Bangkok Metropolitan Administration regarding Klong Toey Youth Council to organize activities
Success:
1. Follow-up on at-risk children who intend to leave the educational system and return to the classroom to complete their studies almost 100 % (Chumchon moobanpattana school)
2. Children in the sport and music groups can continue their studies at higher educational institutions by receiving scholarship. They also have opportunity to present their skill and capacity to the people both in country and abroad
