Community Organization Support Project (1985 – Present)

Community Organization Support Project (1985 – Present)

The project focuses on promoting and supporting communities, schools, temples, organizations, and agencies by providing funding, information, and knowledge, as well as coordinating efforts between relevant government and private sector organizations. The aim is to address immediate and long-term issues as requested or as challenges arise. These include assistance for communities affected by fires, evictions, or floods. Financial support is also extended to underfunded schools, temples, and organizations—both governmental and private—for public welfare activities benefiting children, youth, and underprivileged groups.

Key Impacts

1. Recognition and Development of Urban Communities

  • Urban communities have gained recognition from the government, resulting in financial support for community development.
  • Thousands of homes have been built or repaired for disaster-affected residents.

2. Eviction Crisis Management

  • Negotiations have successfully resolved eviction cases, allowing affected communities to remain in their homes.
  • Through collaboration with government agencies, the Port Authority of Thailand regained land from the Ministry of Defence. This land was allocated for the “Baan Mankhong” (Secure Housing) project to provide stable housing for urban communities at risk of eviction.

3. Community Engagement and Participation

  • The project disseminates eviction-related information to community leaders and members, enhancing their awareness of the issues.
  • Residents’ opinions are actively considered to foster public participation in problem-solving efforts.
  • Community organizations are empowered to engage in negotiations with agencies such as the Port Authority of Thailand, the Ministry of Transport, and the government to address housing issues collaboratively.

Collaborative Problem-Solving

This initiative promotes the involvement of relevant government agencies to work alongside the public in solving housing issues. By encouraging collaboration among all stakeholders, it aims to provide sustainable solutions and improve the quality of life for vulnerable communities.
