Congratulations to Ms. Waranya (“Am”) Jongsaeng from our New Life Project (Kanchanaburi) who, while studying her final year of high school in Japan, also excelled in the traditional Japanese martial art sport of “Naginata-do”. A naginata is a traditional polearm weapon featuring a long wooden shaft with a curved single-edge bamboo blade at the end. Two combatants in protective gear then engage in sparring to score points by striking specific target areas of their opponent’s body. Elements of Etiquette, Safety and Movement are also involved in assessing a combatant’s performance. Recently, Ms. Waranya won 3rd prize in a naginata-do competition for her Sendai Ikuei Gakuen Okinawa High School against other schools. Well done, “Am”.
