The annual ‘Songkran Festival for Elderly People in the Slum’ event was held at the foundation on April 10 with a big roll-up of senior citizens, including our own octogenarians, DPF chairperson, Prof. Sant Hathirat, M.D. and long-term supporter Mr. Robert Wilson. Presiding over the ceremony was Mr. Charoen Phusamritlert, CEO of KPMG (Thailand, Myanmar & Laos) who brought his staff along to join in.
Ceremony participants were invited to pour a little water over the hands of those aged 80+ years while wishing them well. After that, KPMG and DPF staff presented prizes and honorable mentions to members of the DPF elderly citizens club for their outstanding contributions for the past year such as for community service, a leader of chanting at club get-togethers, one nonagenarian (90+) and an elderly member who contributes in teaching difficult weaving techniques to other members. The KPMG staff also performed songs and dances with the seniors providing great enjoyment, before heading off into the community to visit and gift Care Packages to the bed-ridden who were unable to attend the ceremony. Thank you to the KPMG (Thailand) team who continue to provide valuable support and bring happiness to the elderly people in Klong Toey community.
