The foundation celebrated 46 years of devotion to helping underprivileged children and the poor people of the Klong Toey communities on August 30 at the DPF. After a merit-making ceremony in the morning, we held a seminar entitled “46 Years, Duang Prateep Foundation, Houses, Meaning and the Dream of the Klong Toey Community People”. With the looming eviction/relocation (choose your preferred noun!) of the community, we invited three people to present their experiences on housing problems – Khru Prateep, Ms. Somsook Boonyabancha (secretary-general of Asian Coalition for Housing Rights), who spoke on alternative models of urban development based on other Asian countries and experiences, and Mr. Uphayuth Chantarapha (consultant to Network of Urban Communities) who talked about renting land of the State Railways of Thailand. The seminar was then opened to the community leaders and people to express their own ideas for appropriate housing with a better environment. Thank you to all the guests who kindly attended to congratulate the foundation on its many years of service to the underprivileged people. We are ready to continue our important work into the future.
