Aussie Rules Football Update

For the past five years, youths from the Klong Toey slum have been participating in a weekend program to learn and play Australian Rules Football, organized by the Thailand Tigers club (under the Australian Football League Association). Recently, 12 of our boys and 3 of our girls won selection in the Thailand squads to contest the Asia Cup in Vietnam from 5-9 December. The girls’ team covered themselves in glory by winning their competition after victories over China, Indonesia and Cambodia. The boys’ team, although physically smaller than many other teams, performed creditably finishing fifth out of ten teams with a win over Laos and losses to Japan and Pakistan. It was a wonderful experience for the Klong Toey youths, who also generously receive scholarships to continue their formal education from the Thailand Tigers.
