Duang Prateep Kindergarten
Background:
Duang Prateep Kindergarten traces its origins back to the “One Baht-a Day School” started by Khru Prateep Ungsongtham and her elder sister, Khru Mingporn, in 1968. In 1976, this school was accepted to be under the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration at the Primary level, becoming the “Chumchonmoobaanpattana School,” while the kindergarten became a separate entity. During 2006-2008, the kindergarten sent three teachers to train (part-time) in the “Montessori Education System” and, now, the kindergarten has opened a full system of Montessori rooms.
Goal:
To develop the quality of life of children in Klong Toey slum communities to be happy, enjoy learning, be healthy, safe and self-disciplined. Children receive learning through the five senses to develop life skills, self-reliance, freedom, and respect for self and others to live together in peace.
Objectives:
1. To help and relieve the burden on parents with low income
2. To prepare early childhood children to be developed to their potential
3. To develop parents’ knowledge and understanding of the importance of the Montessori learning process, and participate in learning activities with their children
4. To develop staff to have knowledge, skill and ability to manage and demonstrate the teaching and learning of the Montessori system
Target area: Klong Toey communities
Target groups: children age 2.5–6 years
Philosophy
With 16 years of experience, we organize learning in the context of the local community and the idea of Dr. Maria Montessori, which places children at the center of learning and which reaches each child as an individual. She believed that all children have a natural desire to learn and that they should be given the freedom to explore their surroundings and discover new things at their own pace.
Recognition
The DPF Kindergarten has received a “Good Standard” grade from the Office for National Education Standards and Quality Assessment (NESDB) for the years 2016-2020, and its graduates are accepted by famous primary level schools in the Klong Toey area.
