Bringing Words to Life

A series of pilot art engagement workshops called CREATIVE PLAY kicked off in February at the DPF with the goal to introduce ten students, aged 10 to 13, to high quality reading materials, which they can use as a basis to develop different art activities, such as portraits, collage, pop-up cards, posters and craft ideas from waste. By integrating art with language, the workshops encourage collaboration, communication, imagination, critical thinking, joy, perseverance and confidence. At its heart, the after-school project is rooted in the simple idea that children need time, space, and the right tools to express themselves freely – beyond the structure and demands of academics. The twice-monthly workshops are organized by volunteers with assistance from DPF staff from our Sponsorship Section.
