Pathway to Education for Ethnic Girls

On 20 June, Mr. Nicholas Holloway (representative of The Seek Fund) presided over the official opening of the “Green Dormitory for Educational Opportunities” for female students at Tha Songyang Witthayakom Secondary School in Tak Province. Funding for the dormitory was provided by The Seek Fund following a submission from Sikkha Asia Foundation. Almost all the dormitory students are ethnic Karen girls, with some ethnic Hmong girls as well. Also attending the opening were Khru Prateep (Advisory Chairperson of Sikkha Asia Foundation), Dr. Tatsuya Hata (Vice-Chairman of the Sikkha Asia Foundation), the Thasongyang District Chief, the school director, teachers and students. Safe and secure dormitories is an excellent strategy for these female students to continue their education.
